A Tallit (or Tallis in Yiddish) is a ritual prayer shawl worn during morning worship services. The tallit has fringes (tzitzit) on its four corners. Wearing fringes comes from the biblical law “Speak to the Israelite people and instruct them to make for themselves fringes on the corners of their garments…look at it and recall all the commandments of the Lord and observe them… ”
